Privacy Policy
Effective TBD
Milliarium turns your walking into journeys along real trails, through national parks and across whole countries. This policy explains what information the app uses and where it goes. Milliarium is made by John Paist ("we" in this policy).
The short version
- Milliarium reads your walking and running distance from Apple Health. That data stays on your devices.
- There's no account to create, and no tracking, advertising, analytics or third-party SDKs.
- We don't sell or share your information, and we have none of it on our own servers.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
Health data
With your permission, Milliarium reads one type of data from Apple Health: walking and running distance. It uses it to move you along your journey, show your stats and send the notifications you've turned on.
- The app only reads from Health. It never writes to it.
- Health data is processed on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It isn't sent to us or to anyone else, and it isn't used for advertising or marketing.
- The app keeps no step history of its own; it asks Health again when it needs a number. On your devices it stores your journeys (which journey, when you began, paused or finished), the distance banked when you paused one, and a copy of your progress for your widgets and Apple Watch.
You can turn off access at any time in the Health app: tap your profile picture, then Apps under Privacy, then Milliarium.
Purchases
In-app purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. We don't receive your payment details. Apple tells the app which purchases you own so it can unlock journeys, and gives us sales reports that don't identify you.
Notifications
Arrival, milestone and recap notifications are created on your device. You can turn each kind on or off in the app's Settings.
Maps
Trail maps are drawn from data bundled with the app. When you switch a map to Apple Maps, or look at a stop's street view or satellite picture, the app asks Apple Maps for that place, as any map does. Apple handles those requests under its own privacy policy. Your location isn't used.
Photos and sharing
When you tap Save Image on a postcard or stop card, the app asks to add that picture to your photo library. It can't see the photos already there. When you share a card, it goes only where you send it.
Crash and performance reports
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings (Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple sends us crash and performance reports. They don't identify you, and you can turn this off there at any time. iOS also keeps similar reports on your phone; Settings › About › Performance Reports in the app lets you send one to us if you choose.
When you contact us
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply. We delete them when asked, and in any case within two years of your last message.
This website
This website has no cookies, analytics or trackers. The company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
Erasing your data
Everything the app keeps is on your iPhone and Apple Watch: your journeys, passport stamps and settings. To erase it, open Settings › Erase All Data. That starts the app over. Your purchases belong to your Apple Account, so they stay, and Restore Purchases brings them back on a new device. Your Health data stays in the Health app, where you control it. Deleting the app also removes what it keeps on your devices.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in the European Union and the UK, or state laws in the United States, give you rights over your personal information, including to see it, correct it, delete it and object to how it's used. Because the app keeps your information on your own devices, you can see and delete it there yourself. For anything else, such as emails you've sent us, write to the address below and we'll answer within 30 days. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Consumer health data
This is our consumer health data privacy policy under Washington's My Health My Data Act and similar state laws. The only health data the app uses is your walking and running distance from Apple Health, with your permission, to move you along your journeys. It stays on your devices: we never receive it, and we don't share or sell it. You can withdraw permission in the Health app at any time, and email support@milliarium.app with any request.
EU and UK
The only personal information we handle ourselves is email you send us. We use it to answer you (our legitimate interest), keep it no longer than two years, and our email and website providers may process it in the United States.
Children
Milliarium isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and describe the change in the app's release notes. Any new feature that shares information, such as walking with friends, will be explained here before it arrives.
